Our roots

Elm Early Education was founded in the year 2016 by Mrs.Harshitha Chandrakanth M.Sc, PGCE (University of Bolton, United Kingdom), Diploma in Montessori pre-primary (Associate Montessori Internationale, Netherlands), Mr. Arpan Patel (Former financial head at Koolmax Pvt.Ltd, United Kingdom), Dr.T.N. Chandrakanth, M.sc,Ph.D (Retired professor of Physics) and Mrs.Narmada.S, M.Com, LLB.

Elm Early Education school was started when we understood the strong potential within children within the age of six. Often the potential in a child from birth to six years is not acknowledged. Birth to six years act as key formative years in the holistic development of a child that requires scientific addressing through stimulating environment monitored by trained adults.

Elm Early Education is a venture by Southern Academy for Formal Education (SAFE) established in 1994 offering quality tutoring for students taking up 10th to 12th grade examinations and other competitive examinations such as CET, NEET, JEE etc. SAFE has nurtured over 36,000 success stories till date.

Our motto ‘Creating young independent and life-long learners’ was introduced by one of the School’s founders, Mrs. Harshitha Chandrakanth and underpins the values and ‘the art of learning’ we promote today, which are centered around responsibility, dedication, commitment, sense of identity, reliability, respect and co-operation.

We offer each and every child the opportunity to achieve his/her full potential in a caring community, which values its mix of abilities and interests. We recognize that each pupil’s school experience forms the basis for whichever path they choose to follow throughout the rest of their lives and so nurture and enrich the individual talents and skills that our children possess, to ensure that they leave us with the confidence and self-esteem to pursue their own personal ambitions.

Our Campus

Our campus is an encyclopedia!

Our beautiful campus is filled with lush greenery. There are trees, nesting birds, pigeons, kites, butterflies, grasshoppers and lady bugs that children get to feel and watch every single day at school. There is pomegranate, almond and evergreen black plum trees in the campus that co-live with us. Our students are constantly encouraged to grow and caress medicinal and flowering plants to build a sense of relationship with nature and live-in harmony.  Children spend more than enough time each day under the sun connecting with nature.

We at Elm promote freedom to explore among children thus nurturing the curiosities of the little ones! There are many days when children sit down under the shade of the trees and indulge in composition of prose and art!

The total area of the campus is 12,000sqft. Around 8000sqft of space is dedicated for indoor and outdoor play area. Our assemblies and unstructured play times are organized at the outdoor play area for the pre-primary students, whilst indoor play area is dedicated to playtime for toddlers and cultural celebrations.

The facility offers well planned and spacious environments which allow good sun light and air.  The environments are prepared to cater to the independent learning and freedom of movement. The environments encompass practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, geography, general science, art, music and creativity-based activities.

The school has a library with a collection of books catering for age groups 1.5 to 7 years, little farm patch and day-care area.

We believe that early education should give a variety of experiences to children in all areas of development. Appropriate stimulus is the key to early learning. Hence, in addition to unstructured playtime, activities have been designed keeping the child in mind and ensuring there is “directional” play too and they are gardening, terracotta, sand and water activities, cooking, origami, music and movement, dance, theatre, field trips, nature walks, children organized events, cultural celebration, thematic approach and more.

Our Curriculum

Our programmes are inspired by the Montessori philosophy & incorporates other best practices. Elm follows a comprehensive child-centric curriculum that comes with set objectives in all major areas of development such as personal, socio-emotional, communication and language, physical, mathematics, understanding of the world and creativity.

The programmes that we offer:

Our curriculum combines Dr. Maria Montessori’s Montessori methodology with early years foundation stage learning

Montessori has six main areas in the classroom:

  1. Activities of everyday living: This area compromises a range of practical life skills activities that will contribute to the children home life as well as to their future school life. This area is carefully prepared in order to help our pupils build confidence, as well as to encourage independence, nurture self-esteem, and refine their fine motor skills as well as to help them make sense of the world around them through concrete experiences.

  1. Sensorial: On this area the children will have activities to extend their knowledge about the world. The sensorial activities give them some indirect preparation to mathematical concepts as well as an opportunity to refine their senses.

  1. Literacy: Here the children will find a range of activities to indirectly prepare them for reading, comprehension and writing. In addition, the children will have access to resources to enrich language and vocabulary.

  1. Mathematics: Children are born with an incorporated mathematical mind; this area will give them a rich variety of activities to fulfil their natural interest for mathematics and concepts such as order, dimensions, diameters, length, symbols and sizes.

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the world: Here the children will be encouraged to experiment on a variety of science, geography, botany, technology projects and shelf activities. Books, pictures, puzzles, gardening, life cycles and cooking will be prepared for them to participate.

  1. Art: This is where the children will have an opportunity to be creative, to express their art skills freely through a rich range of materials that are attractive, colourful and accessible to them.

We strongly believe that further re-enforcement of a child’s procured understanding was necessary for a child’s holistic learning. To bridge this idea, the best practices of other early years foundation learning pedagogies such as Reggio Emilia and multiple intelligence approaches are blended into the curriculum.

In order to meet our curriculum objectives, we take the children through a structured learning program for 4 years, which involves structured and earmark  activities. No activity in the school is meaningless or done without clear objectives.

For the children in the age group of 1.8 to 4 years, we begin with fine motor and practical life skills. English is introduced with phonetics. Mathematics is introduced using educational aids and manipulatives that help the child comprehend this very abstract area. There are also a variety of activities that aid cognitive development and logical thinking.

For the 4 to 6 age group, children are taken through a program that covers fairly complex areas of language, mathematics, geography, history and science in a manner that will help them explore, discover and understand the fundamentals.

The curriculum provides many opportunities for children to make choices and decisions about their work. Children have the choice to work in small groups/ individually depending on their needs at different times.

During the course of working through the day, we constantly create opportunities for children to develop their language skills as well as focus on their emotional development. We encourage them to receive help from and offer help to other children, thus inculcating a sense of social awareness. Mixed age grouping also helps them become better learners.

We also lay emphasis on creating environmental awareness and help them develop practical skills like cutting, sieving and gardening. We also offer ample activities for development in the areas of art.

Physical development is not just about running around or cycling, there are a series of activities that are designed keeping in mind the age and growth of the child.

Montessori Education

Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori education classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential.

Toddler and Pre-primary Montessori classrooms are beautifully crafted environments designed to meet the needs of children in a specific age range of 1.8 to 6 years. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that experiential learning in this type of classroom led to a deeper understanding of language, mathematics, science, music, social interactions and much more. Every material in a Montessori classroom supports an aspect of child development, creating a match between the child’s natural interests and the available activities. Children can learn through their experience at their own pace. They can respond at any moment to the natural curiosities that exist in all humans and build a solid foundation for life-long learning.

Without the usual pre conceived educational ideas, Dr. Maria Montessori was able to create new techniques of education which would emphasise the “unique” development of each child. This has led to the Montessori Approach believing strongly in spontaneity and independence whereby the child is encouraged to select their own activities, explore and manipulate for themselves.

Research into this approach has shown that the earlier a child learns to interact with others, the more developed their social skills and confidence is in the future. A house of children of good standing – like Elm early education school, aids greatly in the development of the child.

“All children have an innate desire to learn”. This philosophy enthused by Dr Maria Montessori is practised through three Montessori principles. These are:-

  • Observation
  • Individual Freedom

Preparation of the environment mmes are inspired by the Montessori philosophy & incorporates other best practices. Elm follows a comprehensive child-centric curriculum that comes with set objectives in all major areas of development such as personal, socio-emotional, communication and language, physical, mathematics, understanding of the world and creativity.
